Problem Overview
A new worm known as Netsky.B has been discovered in heavy
distribution on the Internet. The worm propogates by e-mail, arriving as a
randomly-named document (see Symantec bulletin below). Once opened/executed, the
worm copies itself to various locations on the infected computer's hard drive,
copies itself to any shared drives which contain the words "Share" or "Sharing"
in their share names, changes various registry entries, and attempts to send
itself to every e-mail address it can locate on the infected computer.
While infection by this worm may make your
computer unstable, the more likely damage will be caused by loss of bandwidth
due to the heavy amounts of e-mail this worm generates.
