"Our old web site is killing us! Can you help?" That's how our conversation with Kim Lambert, owner of Paradise Boarding began. The Liberty, WV-based kennel and pet boarding business had been using the web development and web hosting services of their phone company to produce and maintain their online presence, but wasn't getting the results they had envisioned. Paradise Boarding had no direct access to the files on their web site, and had to make formal requests to their web developer to make even the simplest changes to their web pages. These changes often resulted in long time delays and high maintenance charges, and the business faced even more charges and fees if they wanted to add new features to the site. Additionally, the monthly web hosting fee being charged by the phone company was pretty expensive for the limited exposure their web site was receiving. Overall, Paradise Boarding found their online presence to be a costly and frustrating experience.
Logical Operators addressed these problems by creating a new web site for Paradise Boarding using the latest DotNetNuke (DNN) technology. Through the DotNetNuke platform, Paradise Boarding employees can now directly update their web site content themselves, using a simple web browser from any Internet-connected computer. Simple updates are now instantaneous, easy, and free. Logical Operators also saved the business money by hosting the site at a fraction of the monthly fee previously charged by the phone company.
The new web site contains an interactive photo gallery that allows Paradise Boarding to post pictures of their "pet guests" and their facilities, giving potential clients a glimpse of the quality care and services their pets will receive while staying at the kennel. The photo gallery features a slideshow lightbox that allows large pictures to easily be displayed in a pop-up window without leaving the web site. The photo gallery is fully integrated with the web site's search feature, allowing visitors to search for photos by description, as well as by browsing the site's various photo albums. A tag cloud allows visitors to easily view photos belonging to only a particular topic, and built-in RSS syndication allows other web site and social networking site owners to subscribe to the latest photos posted on Paradise Boarding's site. "I'm so excited," stated Lambert, "this new web site gives us a lot more flexibility in promoting our business and improving our services. I can't wait to start updating the site with new content!"
