Data Vault Remote Backup - The Ultimate Backup Solution Data Vault Remote Backup

Your business data is the most important asset your company owns. The day-to-day functioning of your company depends on it. Financial information, customer projects, reference material - data you need to do your job - it's all crucial when you're trying to earn a living and build your business. Your critical business data is not only intangible, but is irreplaceable without a backup copy.

Disaster strikes in many forms... Each year, thousands of businesses lose millions of dollars worth of data to disasters such as hurricanes, terrorist attacks, earthquakes, flood and fire. Even smaller scale disasters affecting only a single business such as theft, power outages, equipment failure or simple operator mistakes can be truly devastating to a business. Computers, telephones, furniture, even entire office buildings can be replaced after a disaster - what about your business data?

It's more important than ever to protect the data your business depends on with a solid backup strategy, but very few businesses do it properly. Wouldn't it be great if there were a simple, reliable way to ensure that your backups were automatically performed, checked, and transferred off-site? Wouldn't it be a relief to know that you were automatically storing copies of your critical information away from your office without unnecessary expense or effort? Wouldn't it be terrific if this entire process could be managed for you without having to switch tapes or discs, manually restart backup processes, or constantly check backup software configurations? Well, we've put together the ultimate backup solution for you - our Data Vault Remote Backup!

Common Questions (and Answers) About Data Vault Remote Backup

Q: What is Data Vault Remote Backup?
A: A service by which your computer automatically generates and sends backup copies of your important computer files over the Internet to be stored on our servers. We help you setup and configure the software for a small one-time fee and provide the ongoing service and the storage space for a low monthly fee.

Q: Is it safe to send my sensitive data over the Internet?
A: All data is encrypted using the strongest commercial-quality encryption available before it is transmitted from your computer. Even if someone on the Internet could manage to intercept your encrypted data during transmission, they wouldn’t be able to read it without the encryption key – and only you will have that key.

Q: What guarantee do I have that my data will be safe once it’s stored on your systems?
A: Once your data is encrypted, not even our employees can view your data without your encryption key. Our systems are located in a secured area and all data are stored redundantly in case of hardware failure.

Q: What is Bit-Backup technology?
A: Only the parts of your files that have changed since your last backup are transmitted to our servers. This keeps the backup process fast and simple. For example, if you change only one word in a large file that has previously been backed up, only that portion of the file that you changed will be transmitted to our server during the next backup. The change is automatically associated with your original file on our server, giving us a current backup of the entire document.

Q: I already have a tape drive on my server – what makes this service better?
A: In many businesses, not all critical data is stored on the server. Furthermore, tapes are subject to physical damage, mishandling, and mistakes by employees. It’s not uncommon for employees to fail to perform tape backups on a regular basis, to neglect to confirm that they have good backups, or to forget to take the backups off-site.

Q: Won’t this take longer than a backup to a local storage device in my office?
A: Since the software only has to backup the changes that are made each day, the entire process can actually be faster than backing up entire files to a tape or external storage device. Of course, it all depends on the speed of your computer and Internet connection as well as the amount of changed data you have each day. Typical Bit-Backups for a small business server can take as little as 20-30 minutes each day compared to several hours for tape-based backups.

Q: Why do I need to keep my backup data off-site?
A: Natural disasters, terrorism, thievery, sabotage - even accidents can render your computers and all of your on-site backups inaccessible or unusable. You wouldn’t want your backup tapes to be destroyed in the same disaster that ruins your computer. Even if your building is destroyed, your off-site backup data remains intact and is able to be recovered and used as soon as you need it.

Q: My secretary already takes the previous night’s backup tape home with her each evening – doesn’t that protect me with off-site storage?
A: Yes, it protects you with off-site storage, but it doesn’t keep your unencrypted data from being read if that tape is stolen or inappropriately accessed while it is outside your office. It also increases the tape’s chances of being damaged while in transit – a chance you don’t want to take if that tape is your only source of data recovery. Also note: if you’re only taking your most recent tape offsite, then you won’t have older versions of your data available if disaster strikes.

Q: I need to store my backup data in a HIPAA-compliant manner – can this service help?
A: Yes, it can. Because your data is stored offsite in an encrypted manner and is accessible only to you, our service is compliant with the final security requirements of HIPAA records storage.

Q: I don’t have a high-speed Internet connection – can I still use this service?
A: Yes - you will experience slower backups, but you can use a dial-up modem to access the Internet.

Q: What if I need to backup data from more than one computer?
A: As long as they’re on the same network, you can backup as many computers as you like. Our software requires a Windows 98SE or higher computer, but it can also backup any other networked files that can be accessed by that computer through mapped drive letters, including Linux drives, Mac drives, Netware servers, minicomputer files, SAN storage, NAS devices, etc.

Q: Our business stores a lot of critical data in Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft Exchange Server - can you backup these types of systems?
A: Yes! Our software directly accesses Microsoft SQL Server and Exchange Server using your existing security schemas to backup these types of servers as well. You even have control of the granularity level used, which allows you to backup/restore individual tables in SQL Server databases or individual e-mail messages in Exchange Server information stores.

Q: My current software doesn't backup files if they are open during the backup process - can Data Vault backup these files?
A: Our software contains special code that allows opened files to be backed up in their current state in most situations. This prevents critical files from being skipped during backup if someone forgets to shut down their computer at the end of the day or is working on important files when the backup runs.

Q: Can I change what gets backed up?
A: Absolutely - through an easy-to-use software program, you can choose exactly which files, folders, and drives you want included in your backups.

Q: What if I don’t know how to use your software?
A: Learning how to use the software is extremely easy – it’s very similar to Windows File Explorer. In most cases, however, once we help you initially configure the software, you’ll never have to touch it again.

Q: What if I forget to run your software?
A: You don’t need to worry about this! The software runs automatically every day at a time you specify. Once configured, you can forget about it!

Q: What happens if my employee in charge of backups is away from the office?
A: Your backups will still take place! Since the software runs automatically in the background with no tapes or discs to change, you don’t need an employee to manage the backup process.

Q: What if I lose my Internet service in the midst of a backup?
A: During the backup operation, our software monitors the Internet connection from your computer to our server. If for any reason the connection is broken, the backup will automatically resume from the point where it stopped once the connection is restored.

Q: How will I know if it’s working?
A: After your backup runs, our server will send you an e-mail containing the results of the backup – you’ll easily be able to determine if problems occurred (and why) during the backup process.

Q: How do I restore data?
A: Just run our easy-to-use software program to choose the file, folder or drive you want to restore. The files will automatically be located on our server and immediately transferred across the Internet to your computer.

Q: What if I need to restore a file as it existed two weeks ago?
A: No problem – just restore the file using our software and specify which version of the file you need. Each time the backup detects that a file has been changed, it creates a new version of the file on our server. We store your data for 30 days (longer timeframes are available), so you can restore any version of the file that existed during that time.

Q: What hours/days can I use the service?
A: You can use the service anytime you like – it’s available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week thanks to the convenience of the Internet.

Q: What does this service cost?
A: The cost varies based upon the amount of data you have to backup and the number of days you’d like us to retain your backups. In most cases, our low monthly fees amount to less than what you’d pay a top computer consultant for a single hour of on-site service.

Q: Who is Logical Operators and why should I trust them to store my backups?
